Future of Democracy - High School Student ProgramAre you a high school student looking to serve your community? The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections is seeking responsible students to work as Precinct Election Officials.

High school student workers have been a valuable asset to Cuyahoga County Elections and we are looking to expand the Future of Democracy program to more areas of the county. This program gives students an opportunity to learn about the electoral process and build their resume.

What are the requirements to be a Student Election Official?
  • Must be at least 17 years old and a senior in high school
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and reside in Cuyahoga County
  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Can arrange own transportation to the assigned polling location
  • Can lift approximately 35 pounds
  • Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA
What is expected of each Student Election Official?
  • Attend a training class prior to the election -- approximately 2.5 hours long
  • Attend a set-up meeting at their assigned precincts from 6-8 p.m. on the Monday evening before the Election
  • On Election Day, workers must be at their polling locations at 5:30 a.m. and stay until polls close at 7:30 p.m.
  • Stay to pack all voting units and assure all reports are completed.
  • Workers will be paid $172.10, the same as other Precinct Election Officials.
