Time is Running Out to Vote in the March 17, 2020 Presidential Primary Election

Oct 14, 2021

(Cleveland) – The March 17, 2020 Presidential Primary Election is extended to Tuesday, April 28, 2020 for absentee voting by mail only. There is In-Person voting on April 28,2020 at the Board of Elections building is for Ohioans with disabilities and people who are not able to receive mail (no residential address.)

The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections encourages anyone wishing to cast a ballot in the Presidential Primary Election to request a Vote-by-Mail Ballot Application as soon as possible as the election is less than two weeks away.

The Vote-by-Mail process can take between seven to ten days from start to finish. For voters who’ve never voted by mail, it’s a simple two-step process. A Ballot Application must be requested and mailed by the Board, completed by the voter and then mailed back to the Board. The Ballot Application is then processed, and a ballot is mailed to the voter. Voters should be mindful that they need to allow plenty of extra time for the U.S. Postal Service to deliver their Ballot Application and to deliver the voted ballot to the Board of Elections.

“Voters should not wait any longer to request their Ballot Application or print one from our website and get it mailed in,” said Anthony Perlatti, Director of the Board of Elections. “It is only human to procrastinate but this is a critical week. It is with a sense of urgency that we are informing voters that they need to act now.”

The deadline for the Board to accept Vote-by-Mail Ballot Applications is noon on April 25, 2020. Submitting a Ballot Application at the deadline does not allow much time for the ballot to reach the voter by the following Monday which is the ballot return postmark deadline.

These are the options for requesting a Vote-by-Mail Ballot Application:

  • Go to the Board’s website, www.443VOTE.us to complete a Ballot Application form by entering your name and birthday. Print and complete the Ballot Application and mail it to the Board of Elections.
  • Go to the Board’s website, www.443VOTE.us enter your name and birthday and ask the Board to mail you a Ballot Application. When the Ballot Application arrives, complete the form and mail it back to the Board of Elections.
  • Call the Board at 216-443-VOTE (8683) to request a Vote-by-Mail Ballot Application and it will be mailed to the voter.
