The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections introduces new voting equipment during ballot scanner week

Jul 19, 2023

(Cleveland) – Voters in the August 8, 2023 Special Election will use new ballot scanners to cast their votes. The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections is introducing new “ClearCast Go” ballot scanners to the public. “Ballot Scanner Week” is an educational campaign that is part of the transition to new voting equipment.

There will be seven public demonstrations from July 25th through July 28th to allow voters to try out the machines using demonstration ballots. The voting experience will be an improvement because the new machines have larger screens, an easily identified bright green ballot slot, and a more robust and streamlined exterior. Voters do not need to do anything different when using the new machines. They will continue to insert their paper ballots into a slot and follow the scanner’s on-screen instructions.

On Friday, July 28th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm there will be a special session to provide demonstrations of the “ClearAccess” ballot marking device at the Harvard Garage. The machine is designed for people who may have visual or physical impairments. The ClearAccess machine allows all voters to mark ballots privately and independently at their polling place.
